Exhausted from a mere two nights of touring and an embarrassingly modest amount of substance abuse your friendly neighbourhood admin returns home barely able to raise his head enough to see what he’s typing…
The experience could be described rapidly as a heady mixture of bruising riffs, pot smoke and punishment candy, but would be to do the whole band a massive disservice. Something more explicit is required:
Karma To Burn are the best live band in the world
I speak from a position of authority; I have seen every band in the entire world, honestly!
An awful lot of live music (or simply music in and of itself) is wrapped up in personalities and performances… The Business of Show for want of a better phrase.
You go and see the Pixies, you go and see Frank Black and Kim Deal.. You go and see Gang of Four and you watch Jon King destroy a Microwave oven with a metal pipe… these are fine things if done well.. where might we be without Bowie?
Conversely to this exuberance there is The Riff. Music condensed to it’s most elemental form. The bare matter from which all other songs and symphonies are constructed…
When you go see K2B what you get is The Riff, and that is all… no distractions, no lectures, no posturing, no pouting and no lyrics… just The Riff.
When Plato suggested that all physical objects have a perfect form which they derive their nature, that there must be some perfect, abstract chair to which all mere physical chairs aspire in their way, he may just as well have been talking about K2B (who are, let’s not forget quite, quite popular in the Hellenic world)…
In their hands they hold the perfect abstraction of all music.
.
. .
They are best
Make of that what you will…
I’ll learn all this stuff and use it as a prayer before sleeping!

I will add a ringing endorsement to that statement (goes with the ringing in my ears). It really is all about the riff, time after time the thought crosses my mind, well what else can they pull out now? Then, true to form, another epic riff comes crashing forth. This band really have discarded better riffs than most have ever written. There are more in one song than most bands ever could dream of.
In short, magnificent stuff, anyone who doesn’t like this requires brutal electro therapy.
how did your drummmer grow a beard so fast . i saw you guys in leuven a month ago, and 5 months before i saw you in eindhoven, in eindhoven he didn’t have no beard yet did he
Rob has certain “powers”, that we don’t really like to talk about…
… it’s one of those things where if we told you how he did it, we’d have to kill you.
+1 for the ears ringing.
I had the pleasure of three nights company with KTB on this tour, not forgetting YLD who also kicked some serious ass!
Like you I’ve been going to gigs for quite some time, been lucky to see some really talented bands and been blown away by some really high quality music, all personal opinion granted.
That’s not to say I’ve never went to really average gigs, they do come around rather often but there was nothing pedestrian of average about my KTB experiences.
I never actually thought I’d see these guys play live let alone be able to gibber like a red-bull fuelled hyperactive schizophrenic to all band members, every second line was a variation on “You guys are amazing!”, I’m sure one more show and Rich would have labelled me a stalker.
The closet groupie in me could not stay hidden any longer! Not with these guys laying down note after note of sonic assault.
The music these guys create is utterly sublime, simply outstanding. No band (for me) has even come close to the putting as much effort into making kick ass rock and roll than these guys do.
You mentioned the riffs but for me it’s more than riffs, as a group these guys work their asses off to make KTB the tightest, loudest, and most passionate rock band around these days. Long may it continue!
These comments might smack of a still gig high crazy man wanting to show off just how much I (think I) know about music, that might just be the case but don’t let that put you off giving these guys a try, they really really know what they are doing, and they are clinical at it too.
Rich, Will, Rod, Daniel thank you for some absolutely mind blowing shows.
This band will fingerbang your sister in the key of G.
Caught up with the tour in Birmingham and London where it was forcibly demonstrated that The Riff tm will always hammer the bejesus out of the posturing artifice that is the mainstream. Long may this continue and don’t be strangers to this benighted isle.
